Kumagaya City, Saitama Prefecture, which will host the Rugby World Cup in 2019, is located North from Tokyo, and is easily accessible by either JR train local lines, or the bullet train. Omiya, the centre of Saitama City is about 30 minutes from Tokyo by train, and from Osaka, about 3 hours by train via Tokyo. Take a train for about 40 minutes from Tokyo (bound for Kumagaya, the closest station to the stadium), or alternatively for about 3 hours 10 minutes from Osaka.
30 Minutes from Tokyo Station to Omiya Station
Take the JR Ueno-Tokyo line directly to Omiya station from Tokyo station (30 minutes at its fastest / ¥550,) or take another direct line from Shibuya / Shinjuku by the JR Shonan-Shinjuku line (directly linking to the JR Takasaki line and JR Utsunomiya line, taking 35 minutes at its fastest / ¥550 ,) covered by Japan Rail Pass.
40 minutes from Tokyo Station to Kumagaya Station
Take the JR Joetsu or Hokuriku Shinkansen for about 40 minutes to Kumagaya station for ¥3,190, or take the JR Takasaki line to Kumagaya station for about 1 hour 10 minutes for ¥1,140. Both are covered by Japan Rail Pass.
From JR Shin-Osaka station, take JR Tokaido Shinkansen to Tokyo station. If you take the Nozomi train, it will take about 2 hours and 30 minutes for ¥13,620.
Note that Japan Rail Pass cannot be used for travel on Nozomi trains on the Tokaido. However, both Hikari and Kodama trains included under the Japan Rail Pass.
